We all feel down and feel like quitting from time to time in our lives. Trust me, you are not alone.
I didn’t get into nursing school until I was 33 years old. I started the journey at 24! I didn’t graduate until I was 35. That is ten whole years of working toward a goal. Believe me, I wanted to quit so, so many times along the way.
Remember, if it were easy, everyone would do it. And it wouldn’t be a special and worthwhile opportunity if everyone did it.
If you feel like quitting nursing school, or any other endeavor you are pursuing, we hope that these inspirational quotes for when you feel like quitting find you well. As someone who has had to fight tooth and nail for their dreams, and has finally achieved them, all I can tell you is that it’s 110% worth it.
Don’t give up. Keep fighting.
1. “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.” Earl Nightingale
Earl Nightingale’s work changed the trajectory of my entire life. I was at my lowest point about 5 years ago. I felt like I would always be a slight failure. It’s like I was addicted to quitting things I started.
When I stumbled upon his lecture on YouTube called The Strangest Secret, at the risk of sounding dramatic, it changed my life forever.
Now let me tell you, the audio quality is not great, and I have never been successful at finding better audio. But, if you would prefer, you can purchase the lecture in the book/pamphlet form right here on Amazon. I promise it will be the best $5 you’ve ever spent. It’s practically free.
On the topic of inspirational quotes when you feel like quitting, this one definitely feels like the best one to start with. Almost everyone has felt too old to chase certain dreams, even people in their early twenties. It’s crazy when you think about it, so just listen to Earl on this one.
2. “People often say motivation doesn’t last. Neither does bathing, that’s why we recommend it daily.” Zig Ziglar
This is another quote that brought me a lot of comfort over the years. Some days we are on cloud 9 and ready to take on the world, the next, all the doubts creep in. Zig Ziglar is essentially saying that consuming motivational content is just as important as daily bathing.
It is not a natural state to remain motivated at all times, just like our bodies don’t remain clean on their own.
What got you excited about your goal in the first place? Create a wallpaper and upload it to your computer and phone. Print it out, and tape it on your bathroom mirror. Doing this will help keep that spark alive in you.
3. “Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit.” Napoleon Hill
Napoleon is another motivational genius.
I was 30 years old when I first read the book Think and Grow Rich. I remember when I finished it I knew I would have to read it again and again to fully grasp the knowledge I just consumed. After I was exposed to Napoleon Hill content, I was never the same. And I think that can be said for everyone who has read his work.
He gave me so much hope and excitement for the future. He has so many great quotes and pieces of work. When you are feeling down and need inspirational quotes when you feel like quitting, you can’t go wrong going down the Napoleon Hill rabbit hole.
4. “It has been said that once the mind has been expanded by an idea or concept, it can never return to its original way of thinking.” Dolores Cannon
Dolores Cannon was a famous hypnotherapist specializing in past life regressions. The “downloads” of information she claimed that came from the “other side” are certainly intriguing, to say the least.
I like this quote of hers because it is supposed to have come from higher beings. Higher beings in frequency, and understanding from another dimension of reality.
Have you ever heard of, “if you can dream it, you can achieve it?” This quote kind of reminds me of that concept. Once your mind has dreamed up a goal that excites you, how can you go back? It changes your whole life’s trajectory and path.
You can either let fear and doubt keep you stagnant, or you can just go after it.
Essentially, you’ll never be the same anyway once you think these new thoughts. Thoughts meaning your goals and dreams. You may as well take it all the way, or at least as far as you can.
5. “Life isn’t as serious as the mind makes it out to be.” Eckhart Tolle
Eckhart Tolle is a great mind in our current generation. He has a way of helping you really accept the present moment as a blessing, good or bad. That whatever you are going through right now is what your consciousness needs for growth.
I love this quote because it helps lighten the moment. You feel like quitting right now, everything feels awful and hopeless. But what if you flip that around and say to yourself, “But it’s really not that serious is it…”
What does that do for you? Personally, it helps me feel a whole lot lighter. This too shall pass. Just keep swimming…
6. “Whenever you think you can or think you can’t, either way you are right.” Henry Ford
Basically, whatever you allow yourself to think about, is true. If you think you’re a failure and give in to that, it’s true. If you think you are a success or are on the right path toward success, that is what’s true.
Essentially, we get to pick our truth. This can be scary but mostly, empowering. So let it lead you.
We all want to be right, so let’s choose our “right”. It sure worked out for Henry Ford after all.
I actually used this strategy a lot in nursing school. I wanted to be a straight-A student, so I focused on thinking that it could be done. If it could be done, why not me?
I can’t say for sure this is why that worked out, but something sure worked… I believe it was a combination of all these mentalities listed in this list.
7. “You are already that which you want to be, and your refusal to believe it is the only reason you do not see it.” Neville Goddard
Neville Goddard is another absolute gem to gather inspiration from. I love this quote and it is the perfect addition to our inspirational quotes when you feel like quitting list for a variety of reasons. The first one is that it touches on faith.
Belief and faith go hand in hand. Belief is so important to success that it’s not even funny. The main reason I was able to achieve the level of success I reached in nursing school was through belief. I believed I could, so I did. And it wasn’t just words. It was belief put into action.
Since I believed I could do it, I acted as though I could. I got organized, and I committed almost every free moment I had to that cause. Was it worth it? Absolutely. I’m not anyone special. You can do this too. Believe you can. Start there and see what happens.
8. “Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success.” Ross Perot
This quote got me thinking. Why and when do people give up on something? I do believe it’s always right before you get to the next level of progression. Why?
For example, blogging is a new adventure for me. It is always when I start learning more and am about to reach the next step that the thoughts of fear of failure start to creep in and almost take me out of the game completely.
The more you learn and the more time you invest, the scarier the thought of failure becomes. There’s no fear when it’s easy and fun. It’s when things start getting serious, and you are learning more and getting more into the depth of “that thing” where quitting enters the mind.
9. “Success … seems to be connected with action.” Conrad Hilton
Imagination and vision can only go so far. You have to take action toward that thing. So, how do you start? One foot in front of the other.
I used to say this to my nursing school friends all the time. It was so easy to get overwhelmed with all the exams coming our way each semester. Even looking ahead at the upcoming semesters. It would feel so incredibly big and impossible. A lot of friends would go into that dark place and say they just wanted to quit. It was too much.
I started saying “One foot in front of the other”. It became a mantra. It helped!
There is no point in looking at the big picture if it overwhelms you. Especially when you get bogged down on all the steps you need to get through in the process. This is your chosen path, it’s supposed to excite you.
So, enjoy the journey. Just take it one step at a time.
And wow! Here is a bonus quote to back up what I just said by George Lucas, “You simply have to put one foot in front of the other and keep going. Put blinders on and plow right ahead.”
10. “Shake off your blunders. How will you know your limits without an occasional failure? Never quit. Your turn will come.” Og Mandino
What a perfect way to summarize this inspirational quotes list about perceived failure and quitting.
Failure is not the end, and I strongly believe that is the biggest misconception about it that causes so much harm to society. Failure is a necessary evil for learning and growth.
You try something, but it doesn’t work, what do you do? You move on and try again differently. When things do work the next time it makes that thing even more rewarding. When you “win” the first time, it never feels as good as it does after some mishaps and adversity.
Using nursing school as an example, if you fail an exam, quitting should not be where your mind goes first. It should be, “What did I do, and what should I do differently?” If you were trying to memorize nursing school notes, which have almost nothing to do with nursing school critical thinking questions, explore that.
Here is an article I wrote on how to properly study in nursing school if that interests you. This was by some trial and error, but once I figured it out, it never failed me once in my two years of the nursing school program.
If nursing school or college is not relevant to you, look to the leaders in your space, or the people who have the success you want. Learn from them and what they did to get there. So many people are more than willing to share and teach their success journeys.
10 Inspirational Quotes When You Feel Like Quitting: Final Thoughts
As Zig Ziglar said, bathe in motivation daily.
Your mind needs daily reminders and conditioning to pursue what you want. Remember, “your brain hears nothing, feels nothing, and sees nothing. Everything is an illusion.” These are the great words of a former professor of mine Dr. Miyahara. I never forget them after all of these years, and I hope they impact your life as much as they impacted mine.
Your brain needs you to tell it what you see in the outside world. It is a completely moldable, easily manipulated, wonderful, and magnificent piece of equipment. And remember, life should be fun! These are your goals, your desires. They should excite you, and you deserve them!
So have fun with the journey of chasing your dreams. We hope these inspirational quotes serve you when you feel like quitting or giving up. Let us know down below if they did.
